Hollow Mortar
Philippines
This stool is an ancient form well known throughout the world as a tool used for grinding grain. Prized among the women of the Igorot in the Northern Philippines, the mortar is passed from mother to daughter upon marriage as dowry. Falling in love with both the form and the stories behind it, Tucker worked with the carvers to create one of his first and most beloved furniture pieces.
